Faecal Occult Blood test

(FOB test - Also known as Hemoccult test or Guaiac test) A test that checks for hidden blood in the stool.

FDA

Foods and Drugs Administration, a Government body that approves drugs in the USA.

Fine-needle aspirate

A procedure in which a needle is inserted into a tissue under local anesthesia, to obtain a sample.

Fistula

An abnormal opening between two areas of the body.

Free radicals

Harmful molecules that occur in the body. They can cause cell damage and can lead to diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Frozen section

A technique in which tissue is removed by the surgeon and then quick-frozen (or snap-frozen) to be examined under a microscope.
